Event Fun Fact: Beavertail Light

Image
Photo Credit: Hillary Dutton The Around the Island Race course includes a turning point at Beavertail Light, an iconic landmark on the southern tip of Jamestown, R.I. Did you know that the original lighthouse was built out of wood in the early 18th century and burned down just four years after construction?  Now the landmark is a stone structure and has weathered many treacherous storms and towering waves while keeping its beacon aglow for sailors at sea. 12 DAYS TO GO!
