How to Follow: CYC Around the Island Race

For many Rhode Island sailors, Labor Day Weekend is the “Grand Finale” for the region’s racing season, hosting a plethora of fun activities on Narragansett Bay, and on September 6, 2015 the annual Conanicut Yacht Club Around the Island Race will mark its 88th year as one of the holiday’s hallmark events. Held out of Jamestown, the 19 nautical-mile circumnavigation of Conanicut Island is a tradition among many and welcomes competitors racing mono hull sailboats over 22 feet in length that are rated for PHRF-NB.

"The race takes place on what is really the last 'big' sailing day for our region,” said John Mayers, the race's organizing committee chairman. "We are looking forward to yet another fantastic year, filled with competition, camaraderie, and of course lots of fun; there is lots of that to be had, from sailing in the race to attending the post-event dinner and award ceremony. Most of our competitors have made this race a tradition, returning every year to be with friends, share their summer racing stories and take a final shot at the class win for the season.”
This year, Around the Island will be posting event updates and stories from past competitors prior to and during the race on the following platforms.
