JAMESTOWN — The 88th Around the Island Race, hosted by Conanicut Yacht Club, featured 96 boats in 11 divisions on Sunday, with several Newport County sailors placing in the top three of their respective divisions.

Dennis Nixon of Jamestown and Lynx finished second in Class A, Four Suns and captain Charles Beal, also of Jamestown, took third in Class B and Corey Sertl of Jamestown captained Lucy to a third-place finish in Class C. Lucy also took the Robert A. MacLeod Rear Commodore Trophy for the day-sailer with the fastest corrected
 time. Locals swept the top spots in Class D, with John Mollicone (Pipe Dream) and Jeffrey Adam (Sugar Magnolia), both of Newport, taking first and second, respectively. Henry Lane of Jamestown and FastLane took third. Ed Adams of Newport, captain of Comet, won Class E, while Jamestown’s Chris Brown and Luna finished third.

In Class F, Andrew Kallfelz of Jamestown and Aurora finished second and Temptress with captain John Gowell of Jamestown won Class G. Kallfelz also claimed the Eads Johnson Trophy for the large boat with the fastest corrected time.

Clay Deutsch of Newport, aboard Just A Friend, won Class H while Ben Jacobsen of Jamestown led Avalance to a second-place finish. Lincoln Mossop of Jamestown skippered The Cat Came Back to a victory in Class J, Alfred Van Liew of Middletown finished second with Odyssey and Paul Hamilton of Jamestown and Entropy took third.
Glen Walters of Newport with HH42 won Class K, Reef Points with captain Gurdon Wattles of Little Compton took second and Newport’s Todd Stuart led White Rhino to a thirdplace finish.
